Frequently asked questions
Need answers? We got 'em.
A real-time edit is when either a build is triggered (e.g. you’ve updated code or content) or a preview update is viewed (e.g. you’ve made a draft update to content and viewed the preview of the site).
On Gatsby Cloud, we calculate your usage of our services and conduct pricing using real-time edits (RTEs). Real-time edits are a usage metric unique to Gatsby Cloud.
A real-time edit (RTE) is recorded upon the following events and calculated as follows:
- a build triggered on Gatsby Cloud through a Git commit (such as merging a pull request or pushing a new commit), manually (within the Gatsby Cloud user interface), or through other automatic means (such as provisioning a new Gatsby site). Another name for this real-time edit is a live code edit. Each new build in the builds list on Gatsby Cloud counts as one (1) real-time edit.
- a preview update triggered on Gatsby Cloud through a change in data (such as an autosave while typing, save, or publish action in a CMS or data source) while a user is viewing the preview instance. In the case of preview updates, real-time edits are throttled to one (1) real-time edit counted per minute. Another name for this real-time edit is a live content edit. Each new data change in the preview instance counts as one (1) real-time edits, unless more than one occurs in one (1) minute. In that case, each set of new data changes in the preview instance per minute counts as one (1) real-time edit.
Our plans are designed to cater to the diverse needs of your organization. You can always check how many real-time edits (RTEs) you’ve used on your organization settings page to better evaluate your usage patterns and what plan you should choose.
If you anticipate significant peaks and valleys in your real-time edits (RTEs), then contact our Sales team to learn about plans customized to your variable usage.
Our Free plan is ideal for individuals. It’s optimal for your free personal blog or individual websites that don’t require heavy development or editorial review. You receive all of our key features, including free builds on a single branch and CDN integration, reports and trends, and preview. However, once you exceed your real-time edit limit, you will lose access to live updates on preview instances. If you are a single developer or a small boutique agency, and you typically only modify or preview your website a few times a day, the Free plan may be an excellent fit.
Our Individual plan is ideal for individual developers who want the full power of Gatsby Cloud and Incremental Builds. It’s optimal for your early-stage startup or small business websites that expect to see some development and editorial review every day but not heavy usage. You receive all of our key features as listed in the Free plan description above. You’ll also have access to incremental builds and unlimited branch builds. Once you exceed your limits for real-time edits per month, you will need to upgrade to a higher plan.
Our Team plan is ideal for small to mid-sized teams. It’s optimal for your medium to large website that expects to see heavy development and editorial review every day but doesn’t require the assurances of an Enterprise plan and unlimited RTEs. However, you may wish to have a high buffer for spikes in edits just in case. If you exceed your limit on real-time edits per month or need additional Editors on your plan, contact our team to have a custom plan created.
Our Enterprise plan is ideal for very large teams (50+ people). It’s optimal for your mission-critical and large-scale website that expects to see extremely heavy development and editorial review every day and heavy usage of Gatsby Cloud’s features. Our Enterprise plans do not have any limit on real-time edits. Contact Sales for more information about customizing an Enterprise plan for your organization.
You may exceed your plan’s limits for short durations. If you have an extended period where you are exceeding your RTE plan limit you will be contacted by Gatsby to find a plan that better matches your usage patterns. If there is no response your plan will be capped which may limit access to key functionality like Preview, Builds, etc.
Our Standard Builds are 10-20x faster than other solutions because our infrastructure is purpose-built for the fastest possible Gatsby builds.
Gatsby Cloud Incremental Builds are anywhere from 10-1000x faster. This is because Incremental Builds only update the data you’ve changed from your CMS, while other solutions need to rebuild your entire site. Read more about Incremental Builds
You can view public benchmark build data for all of our build types across several CMS providers at willit.build.
Viewers are able to log in to Gatsby Cloud and access all features for their respective plan type. However, they are not able to add, edit, or delete new sites.
The Editor role has full access to creating, editing, or deleting new sites in Gatsby Cloud. Editors have full access to all features available for their respective plan type.
Enterprise Team Training is customized training for your team. This includes Gatsby-specific trainings ranging from Gatsby 101 to advanced webinar trainings customized to your use case and needs.
Our team will review a customer site and identify areas where performance can be improved. We will complete the audit and then review on a call with the customer team. Some things we may identify include:
- Performance issues identified in our review
- Suggested ways to fix these pitfalls
- Any other areas for performance improvement to get to 90+ Lighthouse score
- A prioritized list of highest impact fixes and improvements
Accepted payment methods are credit card, invoice, and ACH.
